Floating Questions
What should I bring?
We provide all the basics you need to enjoy a float session. Clean towels will be placed in your private room along with ear buds if you wish to use them as well as organic shampoo, body wash and conditioner..
We advise you to float completely naked however a swimsuit can be worn if you prefer. All rooms are private and locked when in use.
After your shower we do provide 3 hair and beauty booths in which there is a large mirror, seat and hairdryer provided, so you may wish to bring your own combs, brushes and products such as deodorants and lotions.
Please try to avoid using strong fragrances in consideration of others.
If you wear contact lenses please remember to bring something to store them in whilst you float. All tanks have a spray bottle of water within them for use on eyes in case you get the salt solution in them. We also advise you bring a bottled drink for inside the float room. We provide a choice of refreshments free of charge afterwards in our reflection space.
What should I wear?
You can wear anything you wish, however we strongly recommend wearing nothing at all to get the full benefits.
Clothing will only restrict you and add an external influence, something we are trying to avoid.
The most important thing is that you are comfortable and even though our rooms are private and secure some may find wearing clothing more comfortable which in turn will only improve your personal experience.
Do I need to prepare?
No, simply arrive 10 mins before your session (15 mins if first time) and we will have everything ready for you.
How long should I float?
The minimum advised float session is 1 hour long, however we can accommodate shorter sessions upon request.
We only allow online bookings for 1 hour sessions, however popular lengths among more experienced floaters are 90 minute and 2 hour sessions. Whatever length of session you want to try, we will do our best to accommodate your needs.
Night Floatation Tank sessions are also available on special days only. We will announce these sessions on our social media and via our mailing list for existing customers and they will be available to book online or in person.
It's my first time. what should I expect?
Reduced Environmental Stimulation Therapy (REST) has a multitude of both mental and physical benefits. That being said we have found that the best expectations to go into the pod with are none at all.
Often a first session will not give you the fullest experience, you will have looked into it and read of all the varieties of experiences others have had. The environment is new, and above all else, our brains do not like to accept zero stimuli. Many people state after their first experience that it took them a while to fully relax, to completely let go.
This is why we cannot iterate enough, that the best benefits from floating are found with repeat sessions and longer sessions. The more relaxed you become, the deeper you can go into the float and the more you come out of it with.
Can I bring a friend to float?
Floating is all about your inner self, which is why each pod is for a single user only.
We do have 2 identical pod rooms though, which means yes you can bring a friend. In-fact, if you book both rooms at once we give you £5 off the cost of each room!
Will I need a change of clothes?
After your session you have time to shower, if you feel you need to have a change of clothes then this is entirely up to you.
How much time do I get?
Your time in the room totals 85 minutes for a 1 hour session. This is to allow time to quickly rinse off before entering the pod and to shower and dress afterwards, a speedier entry will give you more time afterwards to shower and dress.
Separate booths are available to use that contain mirrors & hair dryers if you require them.
This allows us time to thoroughly clean the pods and rooms between users.
Why do you use Epsom Salts?
Epsom Salt is named after a bitter saline spring at Epsom in Surrey. It is not actually salt but a naturally occurring pure mineral compound of magnesium and sulphate. Epsom Salt is renowned as a natural remedy for a number of ailments, Epsom salt has numerous health benefits as well as many beauty, household and gardening-related uses.
The wonders of Epsom salt have been well known for hundreds of years and unlike other salts, Epsom salt has beneficial properties that can soothe the body, mind and soul. Some of the countless health benefits include relaxing the nervous system, curing skin problems, soothing back pain, easing muscle strain, healing cuts, treating colds and congestion, and drawing toxins from the body.
Like any other salt solution it increases your buoyancy, giving an almost weightless sensation when floating, it is also extremely silky so you get less feeling from any movements you make, there are 500kg of Epsom Salts in each pod. This combined with the constant body temperature of the water all adds up to help remove more stimuli.
How clean is the water in a Floatation Tank?
The solution is fully drained and cycled upto 4 times at the end of every float, where it passes through several filters.
A powerful pump and the very latest in filtration technology are incorporated in the design of the i-sopod.
The filters are fully effective to one micron which is an incredible 100 times smaller than a human hair!
The i-sense also treats the water with UV and mild chemical treatment to ensure complete sterilisation.
Also the Epsom Salts are a natural disinfectant and create a hostile enviroment for bacteria, so it’s next to impossible for bacteria to live in the solution. Please don’t worry, you won’t smell like you just came out of a public swimming pool or a hot tub and cleanliness is an upmost priority for us.
What ages can Float?
We only allow people aged 18+ to use our centre, with only a handful of exceptions for genuine health reasons, in which case adult supervision is required.
Do I need to be able to swim?
No, the levels of Epsom Salt in the water makes you even more buoyant, it takes actual effort to go under the water in any way or to turn over.
What happens if I fall asleep?
Do not worry, the buoyancy of the salt water will not allow you to sink. It takes a level of effort to touch the bottom of the pod once you are settled in the tank.
What if I am Claustrophobic?
This is actually a common concern, however the i-sopod is one of the largest tanks in production. The space inside is not dissimilar to being in a tent. The inside is illuminated and the power to turn off the lights is with you at all times via an easy to locate by touch button on the left side.
Also the easy open and close lid also has the ability to be left slightly ajar, or fully open if you wished. You can still benefit from floatation with some external stimuli still there and this is often a great first step. There are studies involving floatation and claustrophobia and in a lot of cases the use of the floatation pods actually helped people get past the phobia completely.
How easy is it to breathe?
The i-sopod Floatation Tanks have a full air flow system integrated in them, meaning you will have fresh air without any draughts. The air is usually warm and obviously humid and like the water it is kept at the exact temperature of the average human body, meaning you will feel little difference between it and the water itself.
Are there lights?
Yes! Each pod is fitted with sensory like LED light that can be turned on and off from inside the pod by you, and only by you. With the pod closed you can either benefit from added light therapy , or shut them off for a greater level of sensory reduction.
Can I roll over?
Accidentally? No.
Many people fall asleep whilst in the pods, it is quite normal and because of the shallowness of the water, and the height in which you float in it due to the buoyancy of the salt solution it takes an effort to turn at all.
You could of course make yourself turn to face downwards, however you should not ever do this as the salt solution will very much sting your eyes as well as be unpleasant if allowed to enter the mouth or nose.
If for any reason you did get the solution on your eyes, a water spray bottle is provided inside the pod just for this reason.
Can I float if I am pregnant?
As a disclaimer, you should always consult with your doctor first!
It is considered that pregnant women probably get more relief from the float tank than anyone else.
Just lying on a bed can be extremely uncomfortable for a woman in the later stages of pregnancy due to the massive gravitational strain placed on the body. The float tank is a wonderful haven for pregnant women.
We do, however, recommend that pregnant women avoid floating during the first trimester.
If you have any concerns about the effects of floating on your pregnancy, we ask you to consult and get permission from your doctor or physician before you float.
Who shouldn't Float?
We strongly advise against people using our tanks who are epileptic, have heart conditions or suffer from ear infections. Unless you have been cleared to do so by a doctor.
When booking you will have to read and agree to our terms of floating, these conditions and limitations are included in this and by agreeing to those terms you agree to accept the risk involved.
How often are the tanks cleaned?
The tank itself cleans automatically after every session is finished, we will clean and wipe all surfaces between each use.
What happens after my float?
After your session you can go about your day as usual, however we advise that you take some time to relax after your experience. For that reason we have created our dedicated Reflection Space. Take this time opportunity to bring yourself back to reality or tell us about your experience! We love to hear about other experiences and of course what you think of our facilities. We have a range of hot and cold drinks that are available as well as inspirational and thought provoking books, art and nature scattered around the relaxed seating area. You are welcome to stay as long as you like!
